Zigzagged to Siena today, via the hardest section of the Eroica course, from Asciano to Torre a Castello.The section is a mere 11km, never much higher than 300m, but the climbs are on loose gravel and feel like 20%.
In 2006 I overheated badly on this section, so I'm glad for a chance to pre-ride it this year.
